A nutritional void. <\/p>\n\n<p>Industrial agriculture has traded quality for quantity. The result: nutrient-depleted fruit and vegetables that are visually perfect but practically hollow (see <a href=\"https:\/\/myfood.eu\/en\/2025\/06\/mass-market-retail-what-if-everything-was-connected\/\">last month&#8217;s article<\/a>).  <\/p>\n\n<p>According to <a href=\"https:\/\/lenutriscope.fr\/les-fruits-ont-perdu-50-de-leurs-nutriments-depuis-1950.html\">Nutriscope<\/a> data, some vegetables have lost up to 50% of their iron content since the 1950s, and vitamin B2 has fallen by 38%.<br\/>Why? Because after 1945, the chemical industry, which had grown out of the arms industry, found a new target: agriculture. Synthetic fertilizers, intensive varietal selection, yield targets&#8230; everything was designed to produce fast, store long and travel far. The result? Impoverished fruit and vegetables, a far cry from those grown by our grandparents.    <\/p>\n\n<p>You think you&#8217;re eating healthily&#8230; In reality, <strong>you&#8217;re swallowing food that&#8217;s calibrated to seduce the eye but emptied of its nutrients.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.myfood.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/nl-juillet-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1109378\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><em>Are there any nutrients in those perfect supermarket vegetables?  <\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n<div style=\"height:30px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Industrial agriculture: a real source of nutritional starvation<\/h2>\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Seducing consumers in supermarket stalls if not feeding them<\/h4>\n\n<p>The uniformity of fruit and vegetables in supermarkets no longer surprises anyone. And yet, it reflects a real discrepancy: between the imperfect nature of a living food&#8230; and the processed vegetables of the agro-industry. Our exposure to these &#8220;perfect&#8221; products, no matter where we buy them, has made us forget what a truly natural vegetable should be.  <\/p>\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">More CO\u2082, more sugar, but fewer minerals<\/h4>\n\n<p>It&#8217;s not a theory, it&#8217;s a scientific fact.  <\/p>\n\n<p>Modern agriculture, boosted by powerful machinery and inputs derived from hydrocarbons, has contributed to enriching the atmosphere in CO\u2082. The result? Plants assimilate more carbon, produce more sugars&#8230; and put on weight faster.  <br\/><br\/>They look more beautiful, more voluminous, but this appearance conceals an imbalance: their leaves, fruit and roots contain fewer and fewer essential minerals such as iron, zinc, calcium and certain vitamins.<\/p>\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalgeographic.fr\/environnement\/alimentation-sante-dietetique-nos-fruits-et-legumes-sont-de-moins-en-moins-nutritifs\">National Geographic<\/a> reports an average drop of -8% in minerals, with peaks of up to -40% for iron and zinc. An invisible loss that amounts to taking away some of the little we already had to eat. <\/p>\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Early ripening + transport = flat food<\/h4>\n\n<p>Picked green, stored for days, conditioned for transport (packaging, cold chain&#8230;): your vegetables lose up to 20% of their antioxidant and vitamin content during transport or post-harvest storage. <em>See <a href=\"https:\/\/www.alimentation.pro\/la-valeur-nutritive-des-fruits-et-legumes-est-en-baisse-depuis-les-annees-50\">the Nutriscope article<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n\n<div style=\"height:40px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-buttons is-content-justification-center is-layout-flex wp-container-core-buttons-is-layout-1 wp-block-buttons-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-button has-custom-font-size\" style=\"font-size:18px\"><a class=\"wp-block-button__link has-white-color has-text-color has-background has-text-align-center wp-element-button\" href=\"https:\/\/myfood.typeform.com\/pionnier-fr?source=blog-article-Nutriments2025\" style=\"background-color:#2ea736\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">I&#8217;m going into self-production<\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n<div style=\"height:40px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">A deficient body, even if you eat &#8220;just right<\/h2>\n\n<p>In France, <a href=\"https:\/\/sante.lefigaro.fr\/social\/sante-publique\/moins-d-un-francais-sur-quatre-mange-ses-cinq-fruits-et-legumes-par-jour-20250429\">3 out of 4 adults<\/a> don&#8217;t eat the recommended 5 portions of fruit and vegetables a day. And those who do? <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalgeographic.fr\/environnement\/alimentation-sante-dietetique-nos-fruits-et-legumes-sont-de-moins-en-moins-nutritifs\">They no longer have the same intake<\/a> as 50 years ago: <\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>-75% magnesium in carrots<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>-90% copper in spinach<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>An apple? 100 times less vitamin C than in 1950. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p>The result: widespread deficiencies, 2 billion people affected worldwide, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lefigaro.fr\/flash-eco\/les-mauvaises-habitudes-alimentaires-ont-un-cout-sanitaire-cache-8-000-milliards-de-dollars-selon-la-fao-20241108\">a hefty bill<\/a> for society &#8211; $8,000 billion a year, according to the FAO.<\/p>\n\n<p>So what?
